Utopia Ltd. is a pop-up space and creative laboratory, a public installation that invites audience input. This is the beginning of the development of a new theatre project and we invite Cork city to join our conversations and over the week map our individual and collective relationships to ideals, Roger Casement, history, failure, the Olympics and our place in the world.
Can we write a collective history with space for everyone’s point of view? Are heroes necessarily flawed? Can I change the world?
Over the course of the residency the audiences will have the opportunity to engage, collaborate or join the conversation in different ways. On one level Utopia Ltd. will be a research residency with the aim to collect material that can serve as the basis of a play script to be developed for 2016. But also, in what could be described as an open-source process, the audiences will be able to actively participate by talking to the curators one on one, creating their own timeline of the 20th century, reimagining the world map, take part in mini-workshops or in a more passive manner by reading and rearranging the research, building sand castles, having tea, watching films, listening to curated talks or joining debates with historians, activists, sport people.
With the residency, the idea is to start a conversation about the world past, present and future. We are looking forward in particular to speaking to people with a story about the historical figure Roger Casement or people with a connection to the Congo or Peru. We are interested in meeting people who campaign for human rights or live alternative lifestyles in pursuit of a better world, people with strong ideals, and people who consider living ethically a priority. We are also excited to speak to any of you who enjoy asking and answering questions and who have a perspective to share, a story to tell or an ambition to make a difference in the world.
This residency and 11-day conversation with the people of Cork is a form of open research. As well as asking questions and creating a space for the sharing of ideas, we will be watching documentary films and conducting interviews, and you are invited to join us at these times too.
We are genuinely curious to hear what you think, we are looking for the opinions and ideas you have, even if they are not fully formed, even if it is not what others think.

QUESTIONS AND OPINIONS
Keep an eye out for our flyers around Cork on which you’ll find some of the questions we are asking of Cork. This is a treasure hunt, and we invite you to get involved. Each flyer has a question, and we are trying to find people who have answers to these questions that they’d like to share.
If you find a flyer and you are not the person to answer its question, we would like to ask your help to refer someone you know, who might have something to say about it.
